Locals Marilyn Coury and Heather Murphy still are offering painting classes as entertainment, three years after originally founding U Paint It.
In March 2014, the duo started hosting parties for any occasion.
“Back when we were at Willow (Fashion), we would do parties there, but we also went traveling around to do parties at other places,” Coury said. “We don’t travel as much as we did, but we still do sometimes.”
One of the events U Paint It still attends regularly is the Burden Fair. “They want us to come back in July again this year,” Coury said.
One of the areas that the women did not anticipate their services being used so much was in the realm of fundraising.
“We do more fundraising than ever before,” Coury said. “We wanted to give back to the community, so we give 40 (to) 50 percent to the people who sell the tickets for the paint parties.”
Relay for Life fundraiser
In less than two weeks, U Paint It will be host to a fundraiser for Relay for Life.
“We plan to push the colors of the flags in the flowers to be in cancer colors,” Coury said. “We have a list of what the different cancer colors are.”
The paintings can be done in the painter’s choice of colors, however. The paintings are 16 by 20 inches.
The American Cancer Society chapters of Relay For Life in Arkansas City and Winfield will host two U Paint It sessions at 11 a.m. or 6 p.m. May 20 at U Paint It, located at 220 S. Summit St.
The cost is $30 per person in advance or $35 per person at the door.
To purchase tickets or for more information, call Crystal Samms at (620) 705-1190 or Brandi Hatfield at (620) 741-1049.
Dollars raised enable the cancer society to help people facing the disease, educate people about how to reduce their risk for cancer or detect it early when it’s the easiest to treat, and fund groundbreaking cancer research.
