The Arkansas City Public School District and its employees were victims of a phishing scheme in which some school employees’ tax account information was compromised, according to an email from USD 470 Public Relations Director Alisha Call.

USD 470 immediately reported the incident to the police, the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.

The district also has purchased complimentary advanced fraud monitoring and identity theft protection services for its employees, at no cost to them, to protect further against potential identity theft due to the breach.

“The district takes the privacy and protection of its employees very seriously, and has taken all necessary steps to investigate and protect them from potential identity theft,” the email states.
