Arkansas City students can receive an abundance of help from the community in preparation for the upcoming school year.
Local resources are available for school supplies, shoes, socks and even health care.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Aug. 13 at First Baptist Church, there will be a backpack blowout.
Pre-kindergarten students will receive a backpack, while supplies will be given to the schools.
Kindergartners, and first-graders through fifth-graders, will receive a backpack stuffed with appropriate grade-level supplies.
There will be refreshments and activities at the church while the backpacks are distributed.
Local first-graders will be given backpacks when they return to school this fall, thanks to the Golden State Foods Foundation and the United Stationers Foundation.
